Shared Hosting - Control Panel Tour

Below you will find an outline of each section found within the control panel.
Click on the sections name to expand/collapse more detailed information and screenshots.

Home [Screenshot]
This is the first page (homepage) you will see when you log into your account control panel. This area displays your accounts main stats and all the available sections.

Preferences (3)
This section lets you modify your account settings. It also includes a Getting Started Wizard.
Getting Started Wizard [Screenshot]
The Getting Started Wizard will walk you through some steps designed to aid you in becoming more familiar with your hosting account. The wizard includes tutorials on understanding how your website works, how to upload your website files, creating your first email account, and setting up your contact preferences.


Change Password [Screenshot]
This area allows you to change your main account password. You should always construct a password using upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. 8-10 characters are the recommended length for a password.

Please do not share your password with anyone, not even Host Discovery!!


Update Contact Info [Screenshot]
This area allows you to update your contact email address. You may also select whether you would like to have alerts sent in case you are reaching your bandwidth limit, disk space limit or even specific quota limits you have placed on email accounts.

It is extremely important that this contact information remain updated as all notices regarding maintenance to the server you are hosted on will be sent to this email address. You should use an off-network address for your primary contact, it is safe to use an email address from your hosting account as the secondary contact.

This section allows you to manage your hosting account email features.
Emails Accounts [Screenshot]
You can manage your email accounts from this area. Create new accounts, modify existing accounts (such as passwords and quotas) and delete accounts.

Web Mail allows you to check your email from your web browser. We offer two different web mail applications:

Forwarders [Screenshot]
You can setup email forwarders from this area. This allows you to either forward mail for a non-existing email account to an existing email account or copy mail from an existing email account to another existing email account.

Auto Responders [Screenshot]
You can setup email auto responders from this area. An auto responder will send a message back automatically to anyone who sends an email to your auto responder email address. You can configure your own message and subject line for the auto response email.

User Level Filtering [Screenshot]
Here you can select which email account to manage filters for.

Account Level Filtering [Screenshot]
Here you can manage filters that work for all mail coming into the server for your account.

MX Entry [Screenshot]
In this section you can modify your domain MX entries. This is useful if you have a backup mail server you would like to use.

MailScanner Configuration [Screenshot]
In this section you can configure how our SPAM filtering system and virus protection works for your domain name email. By turning on Spam Scanning you can have SPAM mail tagged, discarded or forwarded to another email account. By turning on virus scanning you can have your emails cleaned of all viruses and either delivered or discarded. You can also setup whitelists to prevent mail from trusted sources from being scanned by the system.

This section allows you to manage your hosting account files.
Backups [Screenshot]
Here you can download a backup of your entire account, or parts of your account such as a backup of your home directory or a database.

Backup Wizard [Screenshot]
The Backup Wizard makes it easy to download a full or partial backup of your hosting account. You can also restore backups that you have previously downloaded.

File Manager [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
The File Manager allows you to manage your hosting account files and folders. It also has a built in file editor, code editor and HTML editor.

Legacy File Manager [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
The Legacy File Manager allows you to manage your hosting account files and folders. This version is older and does not have as many features as the File Manager described above.

Web Disk [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
You can manage your Web Disk accounts from this section. Web Disk allows you to easily drag and drop files to your hosting account from your desktop.

Disk Space Usage [Screenshot]
This section of the control panel allows you to view your disk space usage in detail. You can check how much space each directory or file is using easily.

FTP Accounts [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage the FTP accounts associated with your hosting account.

FTP Session Control [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage the FTP sessions associated with your account.

Logs (6)
This section allows you to view your hosting account logs and statistics features.
Latest Visitors [Screenshot]
This section lets you view the latest visitors to your website.

Bandwidth [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
This section allows you to see the bandwidth usage for your hosting account. This includes HTTP(web), POP/IMAP/SMTP(mail) and FTP bandwidth usage.

Webalizer & Webalizer FTP [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
Webalizer is a fast, free web server log file analysis program. To learn more about Webalizer, please visit the [Webalizer Website].

Raw Access Logs [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your raw access logs archives and it allows you to download your latest raw access logs.

Error Log
This section will allow you to view the last 300 errors reported for your website, such as 404 Not Found or 500 Internal Server errors.

Awstats [Screenshot]
AWStats is a free powerful and featureful tool that generates advanced web, streaming, ftp or mail server statistics, graphically. To learn more about Awstats, please visit the [Awstats Website].

Security (5)
This section allows you to manage your hosting account security features.
Password Protect Directories [Screenshot #1] [Screenshot #2]
This section allows you to manage your password protection features for your website. You can manage your users and which directories you want to have require a username and password.

IP Deny Manager [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage which IP addresses you would like to block from visiting your website.

HotLink Protection [Screenshot]
This section allows you to block access to your website files to prevent others from stealing your bandwidth. You can specify which file types to protect and which websites are free to hotlink your files.

Leech Protect [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your leech protection settings. Leech protection is useful to monitor and make sure that multiple users are not accessing your password protected directories without permission.

GnuPG Keys [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your GnuPG keys. GnuPG is a publicly available encryption scheme that uses the "public key" approach.

Domains (4)
This section alows you to manage your hosting account domain features.
Subdomains [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your subdomains. Subdomains are URLs for different sections of your website, for example a directory located at /home/user/forums which would usually be accessible with the URL http://www.mydomain.com/forums can be made into a subdomain so that your users can reach it at http://forums.mydomain.com

Addon Domains [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your addon domains. Addon domains are domain names that are parked on a subdomain. If this section is not available under your control panel, your shared hosting plan probably did not come with this feature.

If you create an addon domain for the domain name mysmallsite.com -- this will create a directory, ftp account and sub-domain with the same name, mysmallsite. In this example you would upload your files to the directory mysmallsite and when you visist http://www.mysmallsite.com you will see it as it's own website even though it is sub-hosted under your main hosting account.

Parked Domains [Screenshot]
This section allows you to point additional domain names to your main domain name. For example, your main domain name is mydomain.com -- you could park the domain mydomain.net on top of mydomain.com and then both domains will reach the same destination.

Redirects [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your URL redirects. Redirects allow you to make a specific URL redirect to another URL. You can redirect within your own hosting account or redirect to a URL on a different website.

This section alows you to manage your MySQL databases.

This section allows you to manage your MySQL databases and users.

MySQL Database Wizard
The MySQL wizard will walk you through all the required steps needed to setup a new database. This process includes creating the database and creating or adding an existing user to the database.

phpMyAdmin
phpMyAdmin allows you to manage your MySQL database data easily. You can create/drop databases, create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields and execute SQL statements. To learn more about phpMyAdmin, please visit the [phpMyAdmin Website].

Remote MySQL [Screenshot]
This section is used to allow external web servers to access your MySQL databases.

Software / Services (5)
This section allows you to manage your Perl, PHP and Ruby settings.
You can also reach Fantastico from this area.
Perl Modules [Screenshot]
This section allows you to install Perl Modules for your hosting account. Perl Modules added through this section will take up disk space on your hosting account. If you do not want to waste your disk space on additional modules, you can always ask Host Discovery to install the module server-wide instead.

PHP PEAR Packages [Screenshot]
This section allows you to install PHP PEAR packages for your hosting account. PEAR packages added through this section will take up disk space on your hosting account. If you do not want to waste your disk space on additional packages, you can always ask Host Discovery to install the package server-wide instead.

Ruby Gems [Screenshot]
This section allows you to install Ruby Gems for your hosting account. Ruby Gems added through this section will take up disk space on your hosting account. If you do not want to waste your disk space on additional gems, you can always ask Host Discovery to install the gem server-wide instead.

Ruby on Rails [Screenshot]
This section allows you to manage your Ruby on Rails applications.

Advanced (6)
This section allows you to manage your hosting account advanced features.
Apache Handlers [Screenshot]
This section allows you to define certain Apache Handlers for your hosting account. Apache Handlers allow you to control what Apache (the web server) will do with certain file types.

Image Manager [Screenshot]
The Image Manager provides tools for altering images on your account. You can change the size of your images, convert their file type, or simply view them.

Index Manager [Screenshot]
The Index Manager allows you to customize the way a directory will be viewed on the web when there is not an index file inside the directory. The default behavior is to show a list of all files inside the directory. With this tool you can change this to not show any file list, show the default list, show a simple text file list or both graphics and text file list.

Error Pages [Screenshot]
This section allows you to edit your custom error pages. The following errors have associated pages by default: 400 (Bad Request), 401 (Authorization Required), 403 (Forbidden), 404 (Not Found), 500 (Internal Server Error). It is important to customize your error pages, your website visitors will be thankful.

This section allows you to manage your Cron Jobs. Cron Jobs allow you to automate certain commands or scripts for your hosting account.

MIME Types [Screenshot]
This section allows you to define certain MIME types for your hosting account. MIME Types tell browsers how to handle specific extensions.
